Language and Cultural Activities
All elementary students attend Cree language classes for 40 minutes daily. The Cree language teacher plans and delivers lessons and hands on activities that promote an increased understanding and appreciation of our local history, language and culture. Students learn to read and write in syllabics. Community history, traditions, stories and teachings are also shared.
Classes are taught both in and out of the school building. Along with learning the Cree language, students learn how to sing traditional songs, drumming, crafts, traditional dance, and much more. Students appreciate learning about the history of their community and its families and the importance of carrying on and preserving the Teachings.
Cultural Coordinator
The Cultural Coordinator is a community resource person that assists the teachers and support staff in integrating the local language and culture into daily lessons and the day to day running of our community school. The Cultural Coordinator provides local community members as resource people to assist in the sharing and passing on of knowledge and First Nation language and traditions. The Cultural Coordinator organizes cultural activities and land based learning for both students and staff.
